This Sankey diagram shows data from the national 'Understanding Society' survey waves from 2009-2013. The diagram shows the aggregated statistics for individual employment status changes between ages from the survey. In this case we have selected a subgroup of those aged 16 to 24 during the survey. These individual employment changes for a person between survey waves are then aggregated for each age and employment status to create a network diagram across the entire 16 to 24 age group.
Using 'Understanding Society' data means we can understand employment changes for individuals between each wave. We can track a subset of the 16-24 individuals who appear in all 4 waves however this is not necessary for this diagram and represents a much smaller set of cases. We cannot track an individual for the whole 16 to 24 year period. A longer longitudinal study would allow us to do this.
